August 18, 2022

In 2019, American author Delia Owens thrilled readers around the world with her novel “Where the Crawdads Sing” – the book became a global phenomenon. Based on the bestseller about the mysterious “Marsh Girl,” the captivating film adaptation is now coming to the big screen. Producers are Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Levy Neustadter, the hit team behind “Big Little Lies” and “Little Fires Everywhere.” The film is directed by Olivia Newman, who already made her mark in the industry with the critically acclaimed Netflix production “First Match”.

As a young girl, Kya is abandoned by her parents. In the dangerous swamps of North Carolina, she raises herself alone and develops into a sharp-witted and tough young woman. For years, rumors about the “marsh girl” haunted the nearby village of Barkley Cove, excluding her from the community. When Kya finds herself attracted to two young men from the town, a new and startling world opens up for her. But when one of them is found dead, the community immediately sees Kya as the prime suspect. As the case progresses, what actually happened becomes more and more mysterious – and the many secrets hidden in the swamp are in danger of coming to light…

In the film adaptation of the best-selling novel, Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Normal People,” “Fresh”) stars as Kya. The high-profile cast also includes Taylor John Smith (“Sharp Objects”) as Tate Walker, Harris Dickinson (“The King’s Man – The Beginning”) as Chase Andrews, Michael Hyatt (“Snowfall”) as Mabel, Sterling Macer, Jr. (“Double Down”) as Jumpin and David Strathairn (“Nightmare Alley,” “Nomadland”) as Tom Milton. The screenplay, based on the novel by Delia Owens, was written by Lucy Alibar (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”).
