Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka star in The Silence, the terrifying story of a family whose life is turned upside when the world is attacked by lethal flying creatures that detect their human prey by using sound.
In a cave in the Appalachian Mountains, an archaeological expedition discovers an unknown and dangerous parasitic species called a vesp. As they are unleashed on the world, they rapidly mutate and multiply, attacking the human population using their powerful sensitivity to sound. Even the slightest noise summons them in huge numbers. Ally (Shipka) is a deaf teenager whose senses seem to strengthen in this new environment, as she finds she has an ability to feel when the vesps are close. As she and her family seek refuge in the woods, they must learn to be silent in a world previously filled with noise. And amid the creature chaos, they learn that humans can be just as dangerous when they cross paths with The Hushed, a sinister cult who are eager to make use of Ally’s heightened senses. As they struggle to stay one step ahead of their attackers, Ally’s disability quickly becomes the family’s means of survival.
The Silence also stars Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf. A Constantin Film and EMJAG Productions production, the film is directed by John R. Leonetti from a screenplay by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, based on the best-selling novel by Tim Lebbon.
