Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson) is a wealthy, unscrupulous and cynical speculators in the New Economy. He dreams of rough sex and gets worked on at-risk contracts. Traveling in a limousine to a hair appointment, his path leads him through the 47th Street across Manhattan. The heart of New York stands on that spring day in April 2000, just before total collapse. The American president is in town, violent anti-globalization move demonstrating in the streets and the Sufi rapper Brutha Fez is worn with great sympathy of his followers to the grave. Through the middle of this chaos Packer sneaks into his fortress rolling forward at a walking pace, without really coming forward – alternately accompanied by his bodyguards and security guards, his wife, his lover and his personal physician.
